The 3rd Annual New York Jewish Music and Heritage Festival got a name change. It’s now, simply, the Oyhoo Festival! This year’s festival was an event to behold. The opening night featured John Zorn performing with four different Masada groups at the 92nd St. Y, an all-star comedy tribute to Lenny Bruce with Lewis Black, Judy Gold, Jeff Garland and others, and the event culminated with our third, and biggest, Jewzapalooza at Riverside Park.

This year’s festival line-up is becoming overwhelming with so many tremendous shows. Opening night of the Festival is a special evening of John Zorn and the Book of Angels featuring an unprecedented combination of 4 different configurations of Masada on the stage at the 92nd Street Y.

Special Lifetime Honoree: Steve Reich at 70 and 10-Category Award Ceremony voted by Academy of 25 leading Journalists presented by an assortment of personalities. U.S. Premier! More beautiful and evocative arrangements of Jewish liturgical music from the ever creative mind of Frank London, one of the most important musicians out of the New Jewish Renaissance. Jewish Week called this recording on the Tzadik label one of the greatest and passionate recordings of the decade. The all star line-up includes: Frank London and Cantor Jacob Ben Zion, Jackie Mendelson featuring Anthony Coleman, Danny Mendelson, and other guests. The music of Frank London’s Hazonos is featured in “A Cantor’s Tale” – a film by Erik Greenberg Anjou, premiering in New York on September 6 at the Pioneer Theater.
